Presentation and registration open to Escolab activities of the CCiTUB

Today, Tuesday September 18th, will take place the presentation of the Escolab program. It will be at 5 pm in the Auditorium of the Poblenou Campus of the UPF, in the street of Roc Boronat, 138.

The registration period for ESCOLAB activities this year is already open, and will be active until September 22nd. The Units of Advanced optical microscopy, Animal facilities, Electron microscopy (TEM/SEM), Proteomics, Radiological Protection Technical Unit, Scanning Electron microscopy, SPM nano-techniques (AFM, STM) and interferometry-confocal and Transmission Electron Microscopy which are located at Campus Diagonal Portal del Coneixement and Campus Clínic - Agustí Pi i Sunyer offer this year the following activities:

Challenge Nano: "Aimed to see how is the work in a nanolaboratory and how nanotechnological products are characterized. We will also synthesize nanoparticles and think about future applications of nanotechnology".

De Biomacro a Biomicro: “The Units of Animal Experimentation, Advanced Optical Microscopy, Electron Microscopy and Proteomic Microscopy propose a 4h visit to their facilities located in the Medicina-Clínic Campus of the UB. During the visit we can observe the structures of life, from the large structures such as living beings, to the smallest, such as proteins. We will see organs, tissues and cells with microscopy, and analyze the structures of their components and the proteins within them. We will also see how to study the basic components of chemical reactions and how we can know about them to find markers in human diseases, such as cancer, infertility, diabetes ...”

La vida a través del microscopi: “The Units of Advanced Optical Microscopy and Electron Microscopy of the Medicine-Clinic Campus propose a joint visit of two hours for the facilities of our laboratories making a trip between Science and Technology inside the cells and tissues. From how the phenomenon of fluorescence is used to mark and visualize cellular structures and see phenomena such as mitosis live up to not observe with light, but with electrons, the interior of a cell and its organelles.”

EscoLab is an initiative of the Barcelona City Council coordinated by the Barcelona Science programs of the Institute of Culture of Barcelona and Scientific Culture of the Municipal Institute of Education of Barcelona. About 200 different proposals are offered by researchers from 70 research groups of universities, research centers, hospitals and companies, ready to satisfy the curiosity of the students. The activities consist of workshops or visits to see the great diversity of laboratories that exist and establish a direct contact with their multidisciplinary teams and their lines of research.
