Intercomparison exercises guarantee the quality of our results

During the first half of 2022, laboratories in the area of Elementary and Molecular Chemistry of the CCiTUB (Gas Chromatography-Applied Mass Spectrometry, Metal Analysis, Environment-Stable Isotopes) have participated in different intercomparison exercises (FAPAS , FIRMS, IELAB, INSST, LGC and MATCONTROL) with other national and foreign laboratories.

Intercomparisons consist of the organization, development, and evaluation of tests of the same or similar parameters by a set of laboratories, according to predefined conditions. These exercises are a tool available to laboratories for the improvement of services by providing an independent assessment of laboratory data, comparing with reference values or with the exercise of similar laboratories.

This practice is carried out on a regular basis by different laboratories of the CCiTUB, with the aim of evaluating, comparing and improving the quality of their services. Participating allows the control and validation of own methods, testing new tests or measurements, reviewing those that are carried out with little regularity and comparing the results obtained using different methods or procedures, thus helping to select the best methodology to a particular study and the needs of users.

In this semester, the results have been satisfactory for all the analysis techniques of the CCiTUB that have participated (GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AEO and EA- (TC) -IRMS) . These results guarantee the reliability of the services offered by the CCiTUB and allow a periodic evaluation of the quality of the services provided by our laboratories.

With the aim of guaranteeing the best possible service to its users, the Scientific and Technological Centers have a quality management system based on the ISO 9001: 2015 standard. This also satisfies the requirements of the Standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and ensures the continuous improvement of the service offered to customers as well as the processes of providing services of the center.
