The CCiTUB incorporate the Roche "GS Junior System" massive sequencing platform

The Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB) and the Institut de Medicina Predictiva i Personalitzada del Càncer (IMPPC), have settled on an agreement for the transfer of a "new generation" sequencer, the Roche "GS Junior System" platform. This equipment has been incorporated at the Genomics Tecnology of the CCiTUB and will allow to tackle projects that require an average yield (30-40 Mb / 70,000 reads) at a very low cost compared to larger scale projects that have carried out so far with the GS FLX + platform from Roche (1Gb / 1,000,000 reads).

The "GS Junior System" sequencer is tailored to address a wide range of applications requiring long fragment sequences of high quality and reliability (Q20 read length of 400 bases - 99% accuracy at 400 bases). Among the applications that can be performed include:

- Amplicon sequencing
- Pathogen discovery
- “De novo” sequencing of whole microbial genomes
- Metagenomics
- Full-length cDNA sequencing and “de novo” assembly of transcriptomes
- HLA typing with GS GType HLA MR & HR Primer Sets
- Targeted sequencing custom regions
- Epigenomic and methylation analysis
