Dr.Lluís Yedra from the TEM applied to material technology , defended last December 18 his doctoral thesis, which is entitled " Towards a new dimension in analytical TEM: EELS, and the spectrum volume tomography ". The thesis was directed by Dr. Francisca Martinez Peiro of the Electronics Department of the UB and by Dr. Sonia Estradé Albiol from the MET applied to materials technology of the CCiTUB. In the transmission electron microscope ( TEM ) images from a sample can be obtained from different angles and then reconstructed in three dimensions ( 3D ) . Moreover, electron beam interactions with electrons in the sample can be analyzed by spectroscopy of electron energy loss ( EELS ) , obtaining chemical information of the sample. This thesis has managed to combine both techniques to obtain chemical information in three dimensions at the nanoscale. CCiTUB has approximately 170 highly-qualified staff specialists , which provide the user with technical expertise in the work they perform. This is a distinguishing aspect of CCiTUB that significantly increases the value of the benefits offered by the different technologies . | |
