The NanoEduca 2018 Contest Awards have been awarded

Yesterday, May 7, the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona hosted the closing ceremony and awards ceremony of the 2018/2019 edition of the NanoEduca Poster and Video Contest.

Mr. Domènec Espriu, Vice Chancellor of Research UB, Ms. Gemma García, Academic Vice Dean of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Mr. Àlex Argemí, Head of Communication of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, participated in the opening ceremony of the day. (ICN2), Mr. Júlio Pérez, director of the Center for Specific Pedagogical Resources in Support of Innovation and Educational Research (CESIRE), Mr. José Ramón Seoane, Director of the CCiTUB and Mr. Xavier Triadó, Director of the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE UB). Mr. Jordi Díaz (Technical CCiTUB and coordinator Nanodivulga UB) served as chairman.

During the day, sponsored by BASF, Lubrizol-Lipotec and the 'Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona', the students could talk about science with Dr. Arantxa Fraile-Rodriguez (UB) and Dr. César Moreno (ICN2) and, before the delivery of prizes, took place the show 'Me NanoRevolucionas' of the company of scientific events 'esciencia' where the students, of a fun way, could reflect on the properties of the matter in the nanoscale.

Finally, of all the proposals presented, var be considered by the jury as the best video entitled "Ferrofluidos" of the XXV Olympiad institute, in Barcelona. The poster contest was won by the Joan Mercader school in Igualada with the poster entitled "Nitinol: the memory of the form". The second prize was awarded to the video with the best scientific communication at the Puig Castellar Institute in Santa Coloma for its video 'ferrofluids v2'.

NanoEduca. National Award for Scientific Communication

The NanoEduca program, developed from the Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiTUB), the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) and NanoDivulga UB, jointly with the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), CESIRE from the Department of Teaching and the UAB, was created with the purpose of familiarizing the teaching staff of the institutes with the tools, language and processes of nanoscience and nanotechnology, and to create modules and learning factories that can be applied to the classroom.

The program, coordinated from the CCiTUB by Dr. Jordi Díaz, has been awarded this year with the National Prize for Scientific Communication 2018 awarded by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi) and the Generalitat of Catalonia.

The poster and video competition is the final part of the entire NanoEduca process. The faculty of the secondary education centers receive a training that helps them develop the research project in the classroom. They have to make a video that responds to a question or challenge that demonstrates the applications and implications of nanotechnology in the areas of: art, science, technology, daily life, health, the environment, etc. Also, each center must present a scientific poster and defend it before a court.

In this edition, 35 institutes participated in the training sessions for teachers, and of these, 13 presented the final work to the closing day with 20 videos.
