Publicat l'article "A New and Highly Stable Cocrystal of Vitamin D3 for Use in Enhanced Food Supplements"

El Dr. Rafel Prohens, responsable de la Unitat de Polimorfisme i Calorimetria dels CCiTUB, juntament amb el Dr. Rafael Barbas i la Sra. Dafne de Sande de la mateixa tecnologia, i la Sra. Lídia Bofill de l’empresa CIRCE (Center for Intelligent Research in Crystal Engineering S.L), han publicat l’article "A New and Highly Stable Cocrystal of Vitamin D3 for Use in Enhanced Food Supplements" a la revista Crystal Growth & Design. L’article és fruit del conveni conveni de col·laboració entre CCiTUB i l'empresa CIRCE.

La revista Crystal Growth & Design pertany a la American Chemical Society i és la revista científica de major impacte dins el camp de l'Enginyeria Cristal·lina (Q1, IF= 4.1), camp de treball de la Unitat.

El resum de l'article és el següent:

"A new cocrystal of Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) and resorcinol has been discovered and characterized through experimental cocrystal screening. Its high stability has been studied against light, heat, and chemicals present in animal food premixes in order to develop a novel and alternative formulation to current microencapsulation approaches to protect Vitamin D3 from oxidation. Our results show that the new cocrystal is extremely stable and it can become the basis for very efficient formulations of Vitamin D3 which fulfills the stability requirements of industrial applications."
