REMOA begins a new stage to promote advanced optical microscopy

On January 15, the Assembly of the Spanish Network of Advanced Optical Microscopy (REMOA) was held, a key meeting that marks the beginning of a new stage for the network. This new phase is aimed at strengthening inter‑institutional collaboration, specialized training and the development of projects in the field of advanced optical microscopy.

Currently, the REMOA network is coordinated by PhD. Maria Calvo, from the Advanced Optical Microscopy Service of the CCiTUB Cell Analysis Unit. The assembly served to present the main strategic lines that will guide the activity of the network in the coming years.

Among the outstanding initiatives, the development of the new REMOA website and technological portal stands out, tools that will make it possible to identify capacities, equipment, training, activities and specialists, facilitating the connection between laboratories, platforms and professionals in the sector.

During the meeting, the organization of the Spanish-Portuguese Advanced Optical Microscopy Meeting (SPAOM2026) was also announced, which will celebrate its tenth edition in special Workshop Edition format. The congress will take place in Barcelona or its metropolitan area during the month of November, and is conceived as an eminently practical space, oriented to the exchange of knowledge and advanced training in optical microscopy.

Finally, the assembly promoted the creation of action groups and working groups, with the aim of developing specific activities, collaborations and deliverables that respond to the real needs of the scientific and technological community linked to advanced optical microscopy.

REMOA Network

The Spanish Advanced Optical Microscopy Network (REMOA) was created in 2009 with the aim of promoting the transfer of knowledge and collaboration between laboratories and scientific-technical facilities of research centers, universities and hospitals in Spain. In 2012, the first REMOA congress was held, organized by the University of Barcelona, consolidating the network as a reference space in this field.
