The “El legado de Nanoinventum” project receives a FECYT grant for the promotion of scientific culture

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), has awarded a grant of 22,000 € to the El legado de Nanoinventum project, within the framework of the 2024 call for grants for the promotion of scientific, technological and innovation culture.

This grant, awarded under the category of social communication projects in science and technology (recurring projects), will support the final edition of the Nanoinventum project, entitled El legado de Nanoinventum. The project was selected for its quality, potential impact and its ability to bring scientific research and knowledge closer to society by encouraging public engagement with science.

The University of Barcelona, through the Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiTUB), together with the University of Alicante (UA), the University of Burgos (UBu), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Educational and Interactive Science Museum (MUDIC) participate in the development of the project, started this July.. The novelties of this edition include the creation of a MOOC on nanotechnology, innovative new experiments by econdary school students, and a mixed reality gymkhana. In addition, the project foresees the creation of a detailed manual on how to organize science fairs, as well as a chatbot to suppoart school-based fairs. The project will conclude in May 2026 with the now-essential Nanoinventum Fair, where students will present the projects developed in the classroom, this year helped by AI.

In the same call, other projects of the University of Barcelona have also received funding. In the category of new social communication projects of science and technology, the project “INSA-Bot: guiando desde edades tempranas hacia una alimentación saludable y basada en evidencias” received a grant of 16,350 €, and the “Centenario de Maria Assumpció Català, primera astrónoma en la universidad Española” received a grant of 36,350 €. Additionally, in the category of unique citizen science projects, the “Surfing for science” project was also been selected, with a grant of 37,500 €
