Dr. Xavier Llovet, responsible of the Electron Microprobe technology from the CCiTUB, has collaborated with an article in the March 2014 newsletter of the IZASA analytics publication. A brief description of the origins and the technology in which the microprobe is based is explained in the article, as well as its applications, emphasizing the new microprobe model installed in the CCiTUB and the new possibilities opened for the researchers that use it. The new JEOL JXA-8230 microprobe has been installed recently in the CCiTUB, and it is a versatile device that allows accurate chemical microanalysis of a wide variety of materials of technological and industrial interest, with applications that range from quality control to characterization and development of new materials.
