The Mechanical Technology Unit of the CCiTUB in collaboration with the Solar Energy Research Group of the Applied Physics and Optics Department of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Barcelona has developed a roll-to-roll system for the deposition of photovoltaic cell on a flexible substrate.
The system allows the plastic substrate to move from the load roll to the collection roll transferring the required layers for the completion of the photovoltaic cell. The deposition of the cell is made by chemical vapor deposition using tungsten wires heated to 2000 ° C as catalysts for the necessary chemical reactions for the deposition. To avoid melting of the plastic substrate, it comes into contact with a water-cooled roll which maintains the substrate temperature below 200 ° C. |
