"In Vivo" Imaging in animal models

 Objective

These seminars will offer an introduction to different technologies for "in vivo" imaging of animal models, focusing on Advanced Optical Microscopy techniques and Multispectral Optoacustic Tomography (MOST) for "in vivo" imaging applications. The seminars are aimed at researchers, students and private firms of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

10:00-10:30Welcome, CCiTUB Management Staff and Mr. Jofre Juvé (GIC IZASA Group, Catalunya/ Balears Delegation).

10:30-11:30MSOT. Multispectral Optoacustic Tomography. An advanced approach in Preclinical "In Vivo" Imaging Research, Dr. Tim Devling (i-Thera).

"MSOT technique overcomes the purely optical techniques and improves the contrast of the ultrasound-based techniques, allowing the combination of the best of both modalities in order to provide functional information, e.g. concentration of molecules detected by optical absorption such as hemoglobin (Hb) and oxyhemoglobin (HbO2 ), and anatomical in soft tissues with a resolution far below millimeters even in depths of many centimeters."

11:30-12:00Coffee Break (included).
12:00-13:00Intravital Microscopy: a revealing technique in animal models, Dr. Maria Calvo (CCiTUB).

"Intravital microscopy has become a revealing technique because it allows the direct observation of cell dynamics and subcellular processes in organs and tissues in live rodent animal models. Advances in light microscopy such as non linear microscopy and high speed have made possible the improvement of deep intravital microscopy and the relevance of achieved results in fields such as Malaria, Brain ischemia or liver physiology."
