24.04.2025Twenty Years of ISO 9001 Certification for the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona.
The Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiTUB) have renewed their ISO 9001 certification, marking 20 years since they first obtained this certification, which assures the research and business communities that the center meets quality standards in its processes and services
CCiTUB was the first scientific and technical service in Catalonia and Spain with such a broad range of techniques to achieve ISO 9001 certification in 2005, originally under the name Scientific and Technical Services. It was also a pioneer in establishing a Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) working in the field of university research and technology transfer in 1994. This unit was integrated into the University of Barcelona's Policy and Quality Agency in 2007, further solidifying the Center's and the University of Barcelona's commitment to quality and excellence in research.
The elements of the quality management systems have been effectively implemented across all CCiTUB processes, contributing to the improvement of reliability, integrity, and traceability of research results. Notably, these elements have been applied to the organization and management of personnel, protocols and procedures, the reproducibility of methods, the reliability of measurements provided by equipment, the integrity and traceability of data, and the continuous review and evaluation of results.
ISO 9001 certification has proven to be highly beneficial for the university and business research communities that CCiTUB serves. According to the Director of the Scientific and Technological Centers, PhD. J. F. Sangüesa: “ISO 9001 certification has been essential in ensuring the quality of our services, fostering trust within the research and business communities in our work, and supporting the credibility of research results developed at the UB on an international level.”
PhD. R. Vilanova, Quality Manager of CCiTUB and Head of the Research Quality Unit, adds: “ISO 9001 certification helps researchers to guarantee that their research results are reliable and traceable. This facilitates the reproducibility of experiments, improves the quality of the data obtained, and increases confidence in the results, which is particularly relevant in the world of research.”
On this 20th anniversary, CCiTUB reaffirms its commitment to quality in supporting high-level research, with a constant adaptation to new challenges and opportunities in the scientific landscape.
