The Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB) participate in Escolab 2025 with a proposal of activities to bring science closer to Baccalaureate and ESO students.
Below is the list of activity proposals and the educational centers that will visit the CCiTUB laboratories this year.
Analyzing cells: The Cytometry and Advanced Optical Microscopy laboratories propose a 3-hour visit to the facilities located on the Bellvitge Campus of Medicine and Health
Sciences of the UB. During the visit, students will discover how cells from a clinical sample or biomedical research samples can be maintained, seen, quantified and classified. They will
also understand the operation of the equipment involved that helps to analyse the samples: cytometers and advanced optical microscopes.
25/2/2025 Gallecs Institute
4/3/2025 Joan Mercader Institute
From Biomacro to Biomicro: The laboratories of Advanced Optical Microscopy, Electron Microscopy, Proteomics and Animal Facilities, propose a visit of 4 and a half hours
(9.30 to 14.00, with a short break) to the facilities located on the Medicine-Clinic Campus of the UB. During the visit, students will take a journey through the structures of life, from large
structures such as living beings, to smaller ones, such as proteins. They will go through organs, tissues and cells with microscopes, and analyse the structures of their components and the
proteins within them. They will also see how to study the basic components of chemical reactions and how they can learn about them to find markers in human diseases, such as cancer, infertility, diabetes, etc.
14/5/2025 Pedraforca Institute
From the genome to the cell: laboratory techniques in biotechnology: The Genomics and Cytometry laboratories propose a visit where students will be presented with the
techniques used in molecular and cellular characterization that are used in biotechnology research laboratories. Current sequencing techniques, nucleic acid and protein characterization and
cell detection and purification tools will also be briefly presented, as well as their applications in research and health.
20/1/2025 Escola Pia de Nostra Senyora
27/1/2025 Narcís Monturiol Institute
Life through the Microscope: The Advanced Optical Microscopy and Electron Microscopy laboratories of the Medicine-Clínic Campus propose a two-and-a-half-hour joint visit to the
laboratories' facilities, taking a journey between Science and Technology inside cells and tissues. From how the phenomenon of fluorescence is used, to mark and visualize cell structures and see
phenomena such as mitosis live, to observing (not with light, but with electrons) the interior of a cell and its organelles.
5/3/2025 Les Vinyes Institute
A walk through the chemical analysis laboratories: The NMR, Infrared Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry and Raman Spectroscopy laboratories offer a guided tour of the facilities located on the Diagonal Sud Campus of the University of Barcelona. The visit is designed to make a small interaction between scientific/technological education and the University. Through the activity, the daily operation of different chemical laboratories that provide services to the scientific community and to companies is shown, through explanations of the available instrumental techniques and demonstrations applied to different types of samples.
