NanoEduca last session 2023-2024

Yesterday, the closing ceremony and the awards presentation of the 2023-2024 edition of the NanoEduca program took place at the Faculty of Sciences of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

The event began with the welcome by Eva Pellicer, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Sciences (UAB). It continued with the exposition of Jordi Díaz, technician from the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona and one of the program coordinators; Chema Arcos (ICN2) and Júlia Lorenzo (IBB/UAB).

Afterwards, there were mini-lectures and a roundtable discussion on nanotechnology. Young researchers shared with the attendees what they are most passionate about in their profession and their reasons for specifically dedicating themselves to research in nanotechnology. The objective of the activity was to inspire the new generations by presenting science and technology as promising options for the future..

The event continued with the presentation of the NANOEDUCA 2024 Awards, recognising the videos produced by different participating institutes in the framework of this program. In this edition, there were two winners: Institut Sant Andreu with the video "Oncorinex Encapsulat" (Encapsulated Oncorinex) and Institut la Sedeta with "Burbujas de agua" (Water Bubbles). Congratulations and thanks to all participants for their work.

About NanoEduca

It is a program designed to introduce nanoscience and nanotechnology to secondary and baccalaureate students and teachers. The project is driven by CCiTUB together with the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), la Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the CESIRE of the Department of Education of Generalitat de Catalunya.

The video contest, awarded on this day, is the final part of the entire NanoEduca process. Secondary school teachers receive training that helps them develop the research project in the classroom. Subsequently, their students must create a video that addresses a question or challenge highlighting the applications and implications of nanotechnology in the areas such as art, science, technology, daily life, health, environment, etc.

The NanoEduca program was awarded the National Award for Scientific Communication 2018 by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi) and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
