NanoEduca 2022-2023 Closing day

The closing and awards ceremony of the 2022-2023 edition of the NanoEduca programme took place yesterday at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona.

The day began with the presence of Eva Pellicer, Vice-Dean of Academic Affairs of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Mar Pujol, coordinator of the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology degree of the UAB, Àlex Argemí, Head of Communications of ICN2, Diego de la Vega, Head of Dissemination of the Catalan Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and Jordi Díaz, Technician of the Scientific and Technological Centers of the Universitat de Barcelona and one of the coordinators of the programme.

This was followed by a round table discussion with young researchers who presented their concerns and motivations for studying science and nanotechnology, with the aim of showing the young audience attending the event the opportunities and possibilities of science and technology as an option for the future.

The event continued with the educational show "AFM Man", where students saw how an atomic force microscope works in a playful way, and ended with the awarding of prizes for the videos produced by the different participating institutes as part of this project.

The prize for the most scientifically rigorous video went to "Posant a prova" from the Joan Brossa Institute. The winning video in the best creation category was "Hidrotech" by the Institut Les Planes, and finally the prize for the Millor Escola went to the Institut Mercè Rodoreda.

About Nanoeduca

Is a program designed to introduce nanoscience and nanotechnology to students and secondary teachers and high school. The project is driven by CCiTUB along with Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and CESIRE of the Departament d’Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

The video competition awarded on this day is the final part of the whole NanoEduca process. Secondary school teachers receive training to help them develop the research project in the classroom. Their students then have to make a video answering a question or challenge that highlights the applications and impact of nanotechnology in the following areas: art, science, technology, everyday life, health, environment, etc.

The NanoEduca program was awarded the National Prize for Scientific Communication 2018 granted by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRi) and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
