08.06.2021Provision of GLP services in the Animal Experimentation Units of the CCiTUB
The Animal Experimentation Units (UEA) of the CCiTUB, aligned with their policy of continuous improvement, offer part of their services guaranteeing the GLP regulations. Thus, users can now conduct their research at UEA-CCiTUB under GLP regulations, and subsequently if required to obtain a GLP certification from their own studies.
In order to offer this service, the staff of the Animal Experimentation Unit has been trained in the scope of application of the verified protocols, they have the organizational chart and the qualifications required in order to perform the assigned functions and, for to do so, there is a quality assurance program that ensures compliance and regulation where verification audits are followed, and there are facilities prepared to follow the strict controls of the regulations. In order to manage the application of GLP regulations and the ISO Quality system, the CCiTUBs have the support of the UB Research Quality Service, which carries out follow-up audits and advises our Animal Experimentation Units.
GPL Certificaton of the Generalitat de Catalunya
The definition of GLP certified by the Generalitat de Catalunya is as follows:
“The principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) or “Good Laboratoy Practice” (GLP), form a quality system related to the organization and the conditions in which research laboratories plan, carry out, control, record and they file non-clinical health and environmental safety studies on substances and chemicals. These studies are necessary to be able to register and / or authorize chemicals as medicines, both for human and veterinary use, cosmetics, pesticides, phytosanitary products, additives intended for human and animal food and industrial chemicals.
The fundamental objective of the GLP principles is to guarantee the quality and integrity of the results of these studies, which form the basis for their mutual acceptance between the different countries, and thus avoid duplication of studies, with the time and resources saved. ”

The Ethical Committee for Animal Experimentation
In order to ensure the care and welfare of experimental animals, the UB created the UB’s Ethical Committee for Animal Experimentation (CEEA-UB) in 1989. This complies with Decree 214/1997, of 30 July, of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which regulates the use of animals for experimentation and other scientific purposes.
The CCiTUB Animal Experimentation Units
The CCiTUB have six UEAs located in the faculties of Biology, in Pharmacy and Psychology, in the Faculty of Medicine of Casanova street, in the Docent building of the Hospital de Bellvitge and in the Docent building of Sant Joan de Déu.
