Contribution in "21st Century Nanoscience - A Handbook: Public Policy, Education, and Global Trends (Volume 10)"

Highslide JS Dr. Jordi Díaz, responsible of the Nanometric Techniques Unit, has collaborated in the book "21st Century Nanoscience - A Handbook: Public Policy, Education, and Global Trends (Volume 10)", which is introduced as one of the most up-to-datereference work in the field of nanoscience. The fifteenth chapter of this volumen, "Dissemination, Outreach, and Training on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology", has been a collaboration with NANODYF network, an Ibero-American nanotechnologies science divulgation network which was active until 2019. Since then, the Festival 10alamenos9 coordinated from the CCiTUB, has become a meeting place of nanotechnologies divulgation also in Latin America

This publication is aligned to several divulgation projects that, from CCiTUB, are trying to bring science to society in a comprehensive way and contribute to social development.

In this line, CCiTUB published the "Handbook of instrumental techniques for materials, chemical and biosciences research", available from the UB Digital Repository under an open access. This handbook introduces the none familiarized reader to the different techniques available in the Centers explaining their basic principles and giving application samples of each one.

In 2015, the CCiTUB also edited the book "Introducción a las técnicas instrumentales de caracterización y análisis I", to promote the students community interest in the characterization and analysis techniques most widely used in the areas of materials characterization, chemical analysis and biology; techniques that are available in the CCiTUB.

The summary of the chapter is:

"Scientific and technological reasons are associated with the potential applications, new knowledge to be acquired, and the optimization of existing technologies. It is worth noticing that, during the process of growth and design of nanostructures, it is possible to control and optimize the fundamental physical and chemical properties of the materials involved. The large variety of compounds, physical properties, and chemical compositions require the use of statistical and optimization methods in order to classify and design new materials, as for example, topological insulators and other topological phases of matter. Products related to Nanotechnology are continuously mentioned among technologists, people in charge of commercialization, and promoters in the business-industrial environment. A race for the benefits of nanotechnology has been launched around the world. The dissemination of Science and Technology plays an important role in the process of decision-making for future educational actions over social sectors."
