III Festival 10alamenos9 2018

On April 12th, the III Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Festival, 10alamenos9, ended with great success of contents, collaborations and audience. It emerged from an original idea of the CCiTUB and has been led since its first edition by Dr. Jordi Diaz, technician of the Unit of Nanometric Techniques. The 10alamenos9 festival is consolidated for the third consecutive year as one of the most popular science divulgation activities in Spain.

This year, the festival took place in the cities of Donosti-Bergara, Bellaterra, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Zaragoza and the conferences succeeded in making nanotechnology and nanoscience accessible to children thanks various activities such as exhibitions , workshops, seminars, debates and competitions. The sessions had a high participation in each one of its headquarters, being the one of the primary school the most significant.

In the case of Barcelona, most of the activities organized by the CCiTUB were developed at Cosmocaixa with the support of the sponsors BASF, IN2UB, Repsol and VLC Photonics, during April 10th, 11th and 12th. The inaugural conference was attended by Mr. Jordi Portabella. Director of the Research and Knowledge Area of the la Caixa Bank Foundation, PhD. Domènec Espriu. Vice President of Research of the University of Barcelona, PhD. José Ramón Seoane, Director of the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona and Mr. Dagoberto Schmid, Chief of Security of the product of BASF España. Among the most outstanding activities of 2018, it is possible to mention different exhibitions, workshops and forums, and a novelty of this year called "The Meeting of Art and Science" (NanoArt). NanoArt, coordinated by Dr. Anna Vila and Dr. Jordi Díaz of the CCiTUB, became a meeting point for artists and scientists. Through talks, exhibitions of theater, painting, dance, philosophy and literature, attendees could enjoy the synergy between Art, Science and Nanotechnology.

Another highlight of the Festival was Nanoinventum, where primary school students could use their imagination to explain the utilities and designs of nanorobots that they previously prepared at school. During the activity, conducted by Dr. Jordi Díaz with the collaboration of Miquel Baidal (Connecta Ciència) and the company Javier Villena, the students could make questions to scientists about their work.

Finally, It should be noted that the seminar entitled 'Nanoscience is written with the name of a woman' where the protagonists were eleven scientific women who converted their seminars into a meeting point with gender equality.

During the days that the 10alamenos9 festival lasted in Barcelona, more than 1000 attendees, more than 40 volunteers, more than 40 speakers participated, and more than 30 workshops have been held.
