The University of Barcelona has approved the renaming of what were formerly known as the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB), which will henceforth operate under the name Scientific and Technical Centre of the University of Barcelona (CitecUB). This marks the beginning of a new phase for our institution, with a designation that more accurately reflects the centre’s composition, mission, and trajectory.
CitecUB is a research infrastructure that brings together multidisciplinary services and a wide range of specialised yet complementary fields operating in a coordinated manner. The transition from “Centers” to “Centre” reflects this reality and reinforces the concept of a single, integrated structure pursuing a common mission and objective. At the same time, our activity is founded on the combination of scientific knowledge and specialised technical expertise, two inseparable dimensions of our identity that are embodied in the concept of a Scientific and Technical Centre.
This update will also strengthen the centre’s growing visibility, particularly at the international level, and support the consolidation of our participation in European distributed research infrastructure platforms and networks. In this context, the new designation aligns with the terminology adopted by comparable research infrastructures and clearly communicates the centre’s core function to the scientific community, industry partners, and international collaborators.
At the same time, the new name represents a return to our roots. The term scientific and technical reconnects with the legacy of the Scientific and Technical Services of the University of Barcelona, the name under which our centre was known for decades and through which it established itself as a pioneer in the provision of specialised scientific services. In this way, the new brand links the centre’s history with its present and future, preserving a long-standing legacy while adapting it to the evolving challenges of contemporary research.
The new designation is also accompanied by a new logo, developed by the University of Barcelona Corporate Identity Unit, which modernises the centre’s visual identity and reinforces its alignment with the University of Barcelona brand, while maintaining a contemporary and easily recognisable image. Over the coming months, the new identity will be progressively implemented across communication channels, institutional documentation, and corporate materials.
This change of name does not entail any modification to the centre’s mission, services, or commitment to quality, scientific excellence, and support for the research community. We will continue to provide our users with leading-edge infrastructures and services that contribute to the advancement of knowledge.
