The latest issue of the Radioprotecciónjournal, a reference publication in the field of radiological protection, has been dedicated monographically to the Technical Units for Radiological Protection (UTPR) in Spain, highlighting the work these units carry out in radiological safety, technical advice and training.
In this issue, the Radiological Protection Unit of the CCiTUB participates through its head, Dr. Inmaculada Rafecas, co‑author of the article Training actions in radiological protection from the perspective of the Technical Units for Radiological Protection.
The article analyses the role of the UTPR in the field of training in radiological protection and highlights the importance of promoting a safety culture based on the continuous training of professionals who work with ionising radiation. The work also shows the contribution of the technical units to the updating of knowledge and compliance with regulatory requirements in this field.
The participation of PhD. Rafecas in this special publication constitutes recognition of the work carried out by the Radiological Protection Unit of the CCiTUB, authorised by the Nuclear Safety Council to provide radiological protection services and specialised advice. The Unit supports research, teaching and service facilities in aspects related to radiological safety, dosimetric monitoring, control of radioactive and X‑ray installations, staff training and compliance with regulatory requirements.
The Radioprotección journal is the dissemination organ of the Spanish Society for Radiological Protection (SEPR), a non‑profit scientific‑technical entity that promotes the development of radiological protection in Spain and fosters the exchange of knowledge among professionals, institutions and organisations in the sector.
The Technical Units for Radiological Protection (UTPR) constitute one of the main areas of professional activity represented within the SEPR, being service entities expressly authorised by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), and whose head must hold a specific diploma enabling them as Head of the UTPR, also granted by the CSN. These units carry out essential functions of advice, monitoring, control and training in radiological protection in healthcare, industrial, research and teaching facilities. For this reason, the scientific society acts as a meeting point for UTPR professionals, facilitating the dissemination of good practices, technical updating and debate on the present and future challenges of the sector.
