28.07.2026Four years bringing science closer to the Josep Maria Madorell School
The Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB) have completed four years of Magnet alliance with the Josep Maria Madorell School in Molins de Rei. The collaboration, which began in the 2022–2023 school year, aimed to bring science, technology and scientific thinking closer to early childhood and primary education students.
During these four school years, the CCiTUB have supported the school in developing projects related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Based on the questions raised by the students and the needs identified by the teaching staff, specialists were sought who could provide knowledge, guidance and experimental proposals adapted to different ages.
Around thirty experts have participated throughout the alliance in activities, workshops, training sessions and support meetings. In addition to the technical staff of the CCiTUB, the project has involved professionals from different faculties and research groups of the University of Barcelona (UB), as well as collaboration from other institutions such as the University Polytechnic of Catalonia (UPC), the Institute of Environmental Diagnosis and Water Studies (IDAEA-CSIC), Institute of Geosciences Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC), the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGLOBAL), among others. This diversity of profiles has made it possible to work on areas such as health, water, waste, sustainability, geology, materials, architecture and climate change.
The involvement of the teaching staff at the Madorell School, the support of the Magnet program team and the collaboration between the different institutions have been key elements in integrating science and curiosity into the daily life of the school and adapting scientific content for younger students.
Although the Magnet agreement has ended, the CCiTUB and the Josep Maria Madorell School will continue collaborating through more occasional actions and specific projects. In this way, the CCiTUB will maintain support for the school’s scientific activities to consolidate the work carried out over these four years.

The Magnet program promotes alliances between educational centers and leading institutions in different fields of knowledge, with the aim of fostering innovative educational projects, strengthening learning and contributing to educational equity. The alliance has been supported by the Bofill Foundation, currently Equitat, and by the Department of Education and the Molins de Rei City Council.
Participation in the program is part of the CCiTUB’s commitment to social return, scientific outreach and the Sustainable Development Goals. The alliance has made it possible for scientific and technological knowledge to go beyond the University’s facilities and reach the classrooms. At the same time, it has encouraged shared learning between scientific professionals and the school’s teaching staff.
