Final event "The Legacy of Nanoinventum"

On May 21, the Cotxeres de Sants hosted the closing event and awards ceremony of the Nanoinventum program, held this year under the name "The Legacy of Nanoinventum", marking the final edition of the original CCiTUB program.

Nearly 600 sixth-grade students from 13 different schools presented at a scientific fair the 136 nanorobot designs they had developed throughout the school year.

This year’s edition also encouraged the exchange of experiences among students, who were able to learn about the work carried out by other schools and enjoy the interactive show "Nanosciengers", which turned the event into a true celebration of science.

The day concluded with the awards ceremony, featuring the participation of David Bueno, Assistant for Scientific Outreach at the University of Barcelona, and supported by institutions such as UB Divulga, IN2UB, CNM, CosmoCaixa, CMAB, College of Chemists and Casio Edu.

The final edition of Nanoinventum coincided with the project being recognized in the STEM Discovery Campaign by the European entity Scientix (European Schoolnet) for the activity "Nanoexpertas km 0" adding to the other recognitions received throughout the project’s history.

Closing a Stage and Future Outlook for Nanoinventum

Throughout this final edition, under the name “The Legacy of Nanoinventum,” the goal has been to create a legacy that transcends the original project, ensuring its continuity and capacity to operate independently in the future. Within this framework, new transferable resources have been launched, such as an online course on nanotechnology for teachers, an educational mixed‑reality scavenger hunt, and a detailed manual for organizing scientific fairs in schools, among others. These initiatives have already begun to bear fruit, facilitating the expansion of the project beyond Catalonia and reaching regions such as Alicante, Castro Urdiales, Valencia, Zaragoza, and Asturias, as well as countries like Costa Rica and Mexico.

With “The Legacy of Nanoinventum,” the project brings a key phase to a close, this being the final edition supported by the CCiTUB. Throughout the course of the project over the past year, both materials and methodology have been consolidated in order to ensure that schools are able to continue implementing these resources autonomously in the classroom.

Nanoinventum

The Nanoinventum program was created in 2017 at the Scientific and Technological Centers of the University of Barcelona, thanks to the work of a team led by Dr. Jordi Díaz, microscopist at the CCiTUB, and with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia (CESIRE and STEAMcat). Since then, more than 300 schools across Catalonia have participated, bringing nanoscience to over 15,000 students and receiving recognition from various institutions for its outreach work.
