The Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) has recently issued a favourable report on the 2025–2028 Workplace Travel Plan (PDE) promoted by five organisations within the Barcelona Science Park, including the CCiTUB, and has officially granted the PDE Seal, a distinction that recognises commitment to sustainable mobility in the workplace.
The plan, which covers nearly 1,200 people —around 35% of the Park’s community— falls under Decree 132/2024 and reflects the commitment of these organisations to reducing pollutant emissions and promoting the adoption of sustainable mobility policies in companies and institutions. Beyond the seal that certifies adherence to the PDE, the real value of the plan lies in the actions scheduled for the next three years.
The ATM report highlights the quality of the work carried out and provides recommendations that will serve as the basis for the second Workplace Travel Plan, scheduled for 2029. In the meantime, the participating organisations continue to strengthen the actions planned for the current period through proactive initiatives.
The PDE is a collective project that has made it possible to define a set of measures and actions aimed at improving access to the PCB facilities and promoting more efficient and environmentally friendly mobility alternatives. The plan, jointly developed by the CCiTUB, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and Biocat, sets out key objectives such as reducing the use of private vehicles and CO₂ emissions, as well as increasing the use of public transport and active mobility modes (walking or cycling).
To achieve these objectives, the plan incorporates concrete actions that are already being implemented. These include promoting organisational tools to reduce unnecessary travel, establishing protocols to ensure that participation in conferences and events is carried out using sustainable transport modes, improving indoor bicycle parking facilities, and boosting information and training initiatives on sustainable mobility. Among the immediate actions, a bicycle repair workshop scheduled for late March stands out, along with the availability of toolkits for minor repairs at the Park’s reception areas.
