09.09.2024New fluorescence image scanner
As a result of the collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, a new fluorescence image scanner, Odyssey® M (Li-cor), will soon be installed in the spaces occupied by the CCiTUB on the Bellvitge Campus of the University of Barcelona. This new equipment will allow the detection and quantification, precisely and with high resolution, of fluorescence-labeled molecules.
Characteristics
The new equipment has the following main features:
- Multiplexed detection: Allows multiple targets to be detected simultaneously in a single sample with different fluorescence channels.
- High sensitivity and accuracy: It has excellent sensitivity for quantifying biomolecules, with a wide dynamic range and low background interference.
- Application flexibility: Compatible with multiple applications such as Western blots, ELISA assays, gel analysis, and tissue and cell imaging.
- Intuitive Software: Includes analysis software for efficient and easy-to-use data processing.
Applications
The equipment allows for a wide variety of applications of great interest in areas such as molecular biology, biochemistry and other fields of biomedical research. Some of the applications are:
- Quantitative Western Blots: Allows the detection and quantification of proteins with fluorescence-labeled antibodies, offering accurate and reproducible results.
- Staining of protein and nucleic acid gels: It facilitates the visualization of proteins or DNA/RNA in gels using fluorescent markers, improving the analysis of quality and quantity.
- Multi-well plate assays (ELISA): Accurate and sensitive detection of biomolecules in 96-well plates, useful for immunological and cell biology studies.
- In Situ Tissue and Cell Imaging: Allows detailed analysis of biomarkers in tissue or cell sections, applied in protein expression studies.
- Multiplexed assays: Simultaneous detection of multiple targets in the same sample, increasing the efficiency and scope of experimental analysis.
Location
The Odyssey® M (Li-cor) equipment will be installed on September 17 at the Biology Laboratory of the CCiTUB located at the Bellvitge Campus of the University of Barcelona and will be available to users from the second half of october.
