The presentation of the new mineral called Fontarnauita and tribute to Ramon Fontarnau i Griera was held yesterday, February 4th, in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Geology. This ceremony was presented by Dídac Ramírez, Magnificent Rector of the UB, P.h.D. Lluís Cabrera, Dean of the Faculty of Geology, P.h.D. José Ramón Seoane, Director of CCiTUB, P.h.D. Mercè Durfort i Coll of Department of Cell Biology UB, P.h.D. Javier García Veigas of CCiTUB and P.h.D. Cahit Helvaci of the Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Turkey. Different speeches remarked, firstly, the satisfaction of presenting the discovery of a new mineral and, on the other hand, remembering a great example of work as Mr. Ramón Fontarnau was. Also commented that this finding is the result of joint work of various entities of the UB, that even being conditioned by the adverse economic situation, have the enthusiasm and knowledge to carry out tasks like this. P.h.D. Mercè Durfort recalled experiences and anecdotes she lived for years working with Mr. Ramón Fontarnau and then P.h.D. Javier García Veigas explained how was the process of discovery, analysis and registration of the new mineral into CNMNC. He also enumerated all CCiTUB technologies and technicians who helped to carry out this work. After a pause, P.h.D. Cahit helvaci of Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi of Turkey made a presentation called “Borate minerals in sedimentary environments" where he spoke of these materials and their characteristic properties. | |
