The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) which oversees the care and use of animals in research conducted by any organization, company, or public or private agency in accordance with the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) Policy, has approved the University of Barcelona’s Animal Welfare Assurance.
With this recognition, the In Vivo Experimentation Unit of the Scientific and Technological Centers is authorized to support all research activities, research training, and biological testing involving live vertebrate animals in projects funded by the PHS, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and/or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), among others. PHS funding sources include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among others. PHS funding sources include the Centers for Disease Control and Preventio (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) i and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).
This recognition adds to the registration as a contract analysis laboratory with the U.S. FDA under the Generic Drug User Fee Amendments (GDUFA). This registration allows CCiTUB to conduct certain drug analyses intended for the U.S. market, consolidating its role as a reference scientific infrastructure on an international scale.
Both recognitions, OLAW and GDUFA, reflect the University of Barcelona’s commitment to the highest standards in biomedical research, analytical quality, and animal welfare, and open the door to new collaborations with leading institutions and companies in the global pharmaceutical and biomedical sectors.
