The CCiTUB inaugurate the Núria Cortadellas Ramentol classroom

On March 30, the CCiTUB will inaugurate the Aula Núria Cortadellas Ramentol thus joining the campaign "The classrooms of the UB, with a woman's name" promoted by the Office of the Vice President for Equality and Gender with the aim of making visible the women from the University of Barcelona.

The event will take place in the historic building of the CCiTUB at 12:00 p.m., and will be attended by, among others, the vice-rector for Equality and Gender, Dr. Montserrat Puig Llobet, the rector's delegate for the direction of the Equality Unit, Dr. Núria Sara Miras Boronat, and the academic vice-dean of the Faculty of Biology, the Dr. Albert Martinez Garcia.

The initiative, promoted by the Commission for Equality and Social Action of the CCiTUB (CIAS), will name the classroom of the building on Lluís Solé i Sabarís street as a tribute to Dr. Cortadellas, scientist and Head of Electron Microscopy at the Clinical Campus who worked for 32 years in the CCiTUB.

In order for it to be followed by those who cannot attend, the event will also be streamed on Youtube at the following link: youtu.be/hxv1lgH46zc

Biography of PhD. Núria Cortadellas Ramentol

Núria Cortadellas Ramentol (El Masnou, 1961), PhD in Biology from the University of Barcelona, joined the Electron Microscopy Service of the UB in 1985 while pursuing her doctoral studies, where she began to familiarize herself with the techniques related to Transmission Electron Microscopy (MET). In 1991 he received his PhD with the thesis "Maturation of the acrosome and cytoplasmic gout of the sperm of mesocritcetus auratus ultrastructural and cytochemical study", a research work that, together with different training stays in the United Kingdom, helped the methodological development of techniques applied to the MET.

When the Microscopy Service was integrated into the scientific-technical services (SCT), current CCiTUB, she became Head of Unit of Electron Microscopy. At this stage, her leading contributions in the development of Cryotechnics and Immunocytochemistry applied to biomedicine are especially remarkable.

During her career, PhD. Cortadellas participated in more than fifteen congresses of her specialty and published numerous research papers in national and international journals, as well as chapters of books dedicated, especially, in whose instrumentation and analysis techniques she was a great specialist. She also was a member of the "Catalan Society of Biology", the "Spanish Society of Microscopy" and the "Spanish Society of Cell Biology".

Classrooms with a woman's name at the UB

This is a campaign launched by the University of Barcelona in March 2019, promoted by the Office of the Vice President for Equality and Gender at the UB, in collaboration with the Equality Unit, and aims to make UB women visible. Since 2019, a total of eleven spaces from various faculties have been named illustrious women. In some cases she is the first woman to graduate from that faculty, in others she has been a reference woman in her discipline as is the case with PhD. Núria Cortadellas and the CCiTUB.
