The Polymorphism and Calorimetry Unit of the CCiTUB participated in the seminar "Using Supramolecular Gel Crystallization to Fill in the Pharmaceutical Solid Forms Landscape", given by Professor Jonathan Steed of the University of Durham. Dr. Prohens, responsible of the Unit, was invited as an expert to participate in the debate on this important discipline within the field of pharmaceutical solid state. During the seminar, organized by the University of Bradford (UK), the latest trends in the field of solid pharmaceutical forms were discussed, this being one of the main activities of the unit, with multiple applications in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector
The highlights of the seminar were:
• The late appearance of stable crystalline forms as a risk for pharmaceutical formulations.
• Non-standard experimental methods for the discovery of new crystalline forms of pharmaceutical compounds.
• The use of gel phase crystallization as a tool for screening new crystalline forms.
