Sustainability and art in the CCiTUB

The Commission for Equality and Social Action (CIAS) of the CCiTUB, in its line of work to promote sustainable development goals (SDG 2030) has signed together with the Mayor of the City of Canyelles, Mrs. Rosa Huguet i Sugranyes, a collaboration with the Artífex Municipal School of Art (Canyelles), as part of the arts and crafts recovery project.

The project, promoted and coordinated by Dra. Marta Taulés, from Molecular Interactions Analysis at CCiTUB and a member of CIAS, has the support of the artist Sandra Moneny, a teacher in the glass workshop at the Artífex school.

The initiative promotes the circular economy thanks to the potential of waste glass material that, once used to obtain semi-fine cuts in our electron microscopy (TEM) units, can be transformed into pieces of artistic value. Thanks to this collaboration, a second life will be given to surplus material that would otherwise be discarded and thus encourage the recycling and reuse of materials. This is the case with glass knives and other noble materials that can be combined with them, such as grids used in transmission electron microscopes (TEM) or chips used in Surface Plasma Resonance (SPR).

The works created by the students of the Artifex (glass modality) will be exhibited and, if necessary, put up for sale. Profits from sales of processed products will be used for cultural and / or scientific programs and projects.

Artifex School

The Artífex school, the Professional Qualification Center for Crafts in Canyelles, is one of the main bets of Canyelles City Council to promote training and employment in the municipality in the field of crafts and old trades.
