20.05.2021Participation in the seminar "Crystal Engineering and Pharmaceuticals"
The Polymorphism and Calorimetry Unit of the CCiTUB participated in the seminar "Crystal Engineering and Pharmaceuticals", taught by Professor Gautam Desiraju. PhD. Prohens, responsible of the Unit, was invited, as an expert in this field, to participate in the debate on the future of this important discipline. During the seminar, organized by the University of Bradford (United Kingdom), the latest trends in the field of Crystalline Engineering were reviewed, main activity of the unit, which has multiple applications in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector, were discussed.
The highlights of the day were:
• Crystal Engineering deals with the design of molecular crystals and now with greater emphasis on property design.
• Crystal Engineering is moving from discovery and development to manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
• Crystal Engineering efforts on pharmaceutical solids could lead to higher dividends for science together with greater returns for humankind.
