Published the first article with results of the ICPS Multi-collector Panthalassa

The article 'Rare earth elements and Nd isotopes as tracers of modern ocean circulation in the central Mediterranean Sea', recently published in the journal Progress in Oceanography, is the first based on the study of samples analyzed with the multi-mass spectrometer induced coupled plasma collector (MC-ICPMS) Panthalassa, located at CCiTUB.

The research profiles an hydrodynamic map between the eastern and western basins of the Mediterranean Sea, and is led by Leopoldo Pena and Isabel Cacho, members of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and the Consolidated Research Group on Marine Geosciences of the UB. Eduardo Paredes, specialist technician of the equipment, accessible through the Metal Analysis Unit dels CCiTUB is also co-author ofthe work.

The equipment, acquired thanks to European funds obtained by Dra. Isabel Cacho, from the Department of Stratigraphy, Paleontology and Marine Geosciences at the University of Barcelona, is located in the CCiTUB building located on Carrer Lluís Solé i Sabarís, and reflects the commitment of the Scientific and Technological Centers to a close collaboration with the research groups of the University of Barcelona.
